Januar 1985 machte es den Festsaal des Palais Liechtenstein in Wien zum Ausgangs- und Endpunkt einer Reise um die Welt in 32 Minuten, einer Stafette über Kontinente hinweg, von einem Künstler zum andern. Eine halbe Stunde also war nötig für den Weg zu Joseph Beuys in Düssel- dorf, Andy Warhol in New York, Kaii Higashiyama in Tokio und wieder zurück ins Museum moderner Kunst in Wien. Eine halbe Stunde, die auch genügen würde, die unerbittliche Maschinerie eines weltweiten Kriegsin- fernos in Gang zu setzten die Tech- nik, der wir neben manch Sinnvollem, manch Angenehmem, manch Nütz- lichem auch diesen "Fortschritt>>> verdanken, macht's möglich. Eine Tech- nik, ohne die jedoch auch <<Global- Art-Fusion>> nicht denkbar wäre, und die damit zwar nicht den Weltfrieden auslösen, aber doch ein Zeichen für ihn setzen konnte - denn "Global-Art- Fusion>> wurde eben "im Zeichen des Friedens" inszeniert. Dies gibt der Aktion auch ihren Sinn, verleiht ihr Wert und Gehalt über jenen der im Kunstbetrieb so oft anzutref- fenden Gags und Spielereien hinaus. / (Excerpt:) Prologue/Epilogue "Global-Art-Fusion", a singular and in its way unique event in the sphere of arts has made its way around the world - in the truest sense of the word: on January 12th of 1985 it made the Palais Liechtenstein in Vienna the starting- point and the terminus of a journey around the world, accomplished in 32 minutes; a journey and relay race across continents, from one artist to another. It took barely half an hour to reach Joseph Beuys in Düsseldorf, then go on to Andy Warhol in New York, to Kaii Higashiyama in Tokyo and back to the Museum of Modern Art in Vienna. Half an hour that would also be sufficient to start the relentless machinery of a worldwide inferno of war - made possible by technical ad- vancements, to which we are owing, besides many ingenious, pleasant and useful things, also this kind of "prog- ress". Technical progress, that never- theless rendered "Global-Art-Fusion" feasible, too and that, although it could not trigger the peace of the world, managed to stand as a sign of this peace, for "Global-Art-Fusion" was staged "under the sign of peace".
