Beschreibung:

4°, circa 24,5 x 18 cm., 31, 914 pp., 7 ff., title in red and black with large armorial woodcut. Contemporary calf with richly gilded spine Cf. Wetzer-W. IX, 1120. Revised and enlarged edition of this collection of letters by the eminent French diplomat D'Ossat (1536-1604), first published in 1624. They cover the period of 1594 to 1604 when the cardinal represented Henri IV in Italy. During this time he managed to achieve the annulation of the marriage to Marguerite de Valois and also the approval for the Edit de Nantes. - "Ossats Briefe werden mit Recht als Meisterstücke der Politik angesehen" (W.-W.).

Bemerkung:

- Some browning and foxing, few pages with wrinkles, spine at bothe ends with some small damage at the hinges but solid, else just slightly rubbed. Altogether very good with traces of use and age.
