Einband leicht berieben. - Peter Carl Faberge (1846-1920) was possibly the greatest jeweler since the Renaissance. Born in Russia of French Huguenot ancestry, in 1870 he took over the management of the firm founded by his father in St. Petersburg. Faberge's greatest success was inextricably linked to the Imperial patronage of the Romanoff family. In 1884 Faberge' received the title of Supplier of the Imperial Court." This Imperial Warrant inaugurated the creation of the series of Imperial Easter Eggs, the gift of Czar Alexander III to his wife Maria Feodorovna.
