Bemerkung:
Ein gutes und sauberes Exemplar. - In the ten-year period following 1977, the year in which the Barbier-Mueller Museum of Primitive Art was founded; the Museum has achieved international recognition thanks to the publication of catalogues and art books which feature certain sections of the Museum's collection. Many travelling exhibitions have been organized and a close collaboration with several major museums has been established. These museums include the Los Angeles County Museum, the Dallas Museum of Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and the Asia Society of New York, among others. As a private, non-profit institution the Museum's goal is to preserve, study, and publish a family collection dating back to World War I that has constantly been enriched by a consistent acquisition policy. This collection is still growing and presently consists of 4,500 sculptures, textiles, ornaments and jewelry from Oceania, Africa, the Americas and Southeast Asia : a collection the public is successively invited to discover. In line with this policy, long-term loans have been granted to other museums. In this publication the reader will find a reminder of what has been accomplished, as well as projects under preparation. The dynamic spirit of our institution is witnessed by the presentation, on full page color plates, of 30 recently purchased objects.
