In 1960 he set up Arquati Cornici which, starting life as a workshop on the outskirts of Parma, has developed into a major industry with an international market: the establishment at Castellaro di Sala Baganza supplies 60,000 sales outlets in Europe and America. Awarded the title of "Grande Ufficiale" in 1985, Franco Arquati was made "Cavalière del iavoro" by the President of the Italian Republic in 1992. Since 1990 his active involvement in public life has led to his appointment as chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Salone del Mobile, as a member of the board of Confindusfria, and as chairman of Federlegno-Arredamento and the Comilato Fiere Industrie. Since 1994 he has been president of AFI (the Italian Forestry Association).
